Happy Thanksgiving from Motion Picture Technical High School! 🦃✨🍁
We have so much to be thankful for, and today, we’d like to give a special shoutout to our incredible students, families, staff, industry partners, and the entire community that keeps us moving every day.
This week, we celebrated gratitude, honored the land we’re on, and came together for a beautiful feast.
🍁🎬✨
Thank you to the incredible South Shore cast and crew for joining us this morning for back-to-back screenings with our film students!
Today was truly special: our founding principal, Mr. Lopez, served as the Producer on the film, our amazing school aide, Mr. Hernandez, worked as a PA on the shoot, and his younger brother, Dylan Hernandez, starred as one of the lead actors!
This gathering was a shining example of how much the entire MPT community lives and breathes film. It also gave our students the incredible opportunity to ask insightful, first-hand questions about the filmmaking process.
A big shoutout to our amazing guests:
✨ Dexter Strong Buell, Writer & Director @dexterkstrong
✨ Justine Lucas, Executive Producer @theproudprincipal
✨ Derek Mindler, Director of Photography
✨ Dylan Hernandez, Lead Actor @dylanryanh
Thank you! @southshoremovie
Be on the lookout for our next segment of “Tyler Talks” hosted by Mr. Hernandez! 👏
The MPT crew went off-site today to document NYC Public Schools’ Native American Heritage Month celebration at the historic Tweed Courthouse in Downtown Manhattan! ✨🎬
Our talented Motion Picture Technology students, guided by their film teachers Ms. Gutierrez and Mr. Ducoff, captured every unforgettable moment of this meaningful event.
We were also fortunate to have our industry partners, Jess Vargas and Amnon Carmi, on hand to support and mentor our students. @lajefajessica @amnonimacaroni
A special thank you to Chancellor Melissa Aviles-Ramos for always taking time to connect with and inspire our youth.
These opportunities also wouldn’t be possible without the support of Dery Rodriguez and her team.
Celebrating Native American Heritage is essential for honoring the rich history, culture, and contributions of Indigenous peoples. Events like these allow us to reflect, learn, and share their powerful stories while fostering greater understanding and respect within our communities. 🤍

It highlights how Illustrative Math has transformed classrooms across the CUNY/UA district, showing the incredible impact of problem-based learning and real-world connections. 🌍✏️
We’re excited to bring this innovative approach to our students, empowering them to think critically and creatively while exploring math in meaningful ways. 🙌📐
